Creative Lane Zine is ready!!

Open publication - Free publishing - More art

The magazine is finally done! The amount of time that I spent to organize the files are actually more than I spent to make the magazines. Anyway, now I know my MAC can organize PDF into one file easily and it can also reduce the size of the PDF file from 300MB to 5MB ! How can it do that? I have no idea but a bit of google tutorial did save my life!

Sadly...

I just realized some of my favorite Sydney artists has to close down or limited their crafty business because they have to go back to the full time workforce.... it's such a hard and painful decision. How many of us have dream to be our own boss and do what we like for a living? But the reality is family and standard of living always come first. I have been working full time and running the business since uni, it's hard and sometimes I feel so trapped but at the end of the day, you've got to pay the bills. So now instead of complain about it, I see Creative Lane and my designs business as an outlet to free myself (my creative brain) from my full time job. I remember once my boss said to me, "it's good you have something to do outside work, you have something to hold on to, otherwise what's the point of living?"
I wish my creative friends all the best.

Meet the artist Stitchester Village

One of my favourite artist Katy Dee is having her exhibition at the Sweets Workshop in Summer Hill !! How exciting!

Katy Dee is a Crafter/Designer based in Sydney. Her style is quirky, colourful and fun.  She loves bright and bold colours and is known for clashing things together, which is very dominant in her work.
Katy likes to mix and match, play with scale and have fun. She likes to make one-offs with unique finds.  With a 3D design background she takes delight in dabbling with a mixture of mediums from fabric to resin, often obsessing over something then moving on.
Always learning new things and expanding on her crafty skills, Katy has a passion for handmade craft and believes the things you own and wear should be as unique as you.
She can usually be found rummaging in op shops collecting trinkets or in craft corner surrounded by piles of fabric and ribbons enjoying a nice cup of tea.

Suitcase Rummage

Suitcase Rummage is a mini scaled market aimed at supporting emerging artists, crafters and second-hand marketeers from all ages and backgrounds.
The focus is on eco-friendly, ethical consumerism that fosters a local, sustainable economy by encouraging entry level entrepreneurs.

Sales are from a suitcase (or two!) and other than a $25 registration fee (which covers PLI) there are no overheads.
This way we can make the Rummage accessible to all people from all walks, providing them with a platform and kick start.

Suitcase Rummage is the brainchild of Daniele Constance and Isabel FitzGerald, who saw a 'gap in the market' for artists, crafters and entrepreneurs, many of whom could not afford the sometimes massive overheads that come with participating in arts and crafts markets. With the help of Brisbane City Council, they launched the event as part of Youth Week in Brisbane, and since then have delivered the event independently and regularly throughout Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ipswich and now Melbourne.

The event will be held in the Velvet Room of the Thornbury Theatre on Sunday the 29th of July. It is Free Entry, there will be emerging musicians and performers, entertainment, food, it will be a grand day!

Why our markets are dying?

                                found on http://500px.com/photo/696371

Why do you think Sydney's art and craft markets are dying out? It just seems to me that markets in Sydney are either too expensive to join or full of junk. I wonder why we can't a bit more like Melbourne has some good quality artistic market? Is that because our artists arn't good enough? or Sydney people just don't care?

Feel free to leave your comments here or on facebook or here. Maybe there's something that we can do about?

Creative Lane Online Magazine

Creative Lane would like to  invited all the creative people in Australia to participate in our online magazine. You are welcome to share their DIY tips, illustration, local cafe, cooking, shops,  photography, home decoration, etc, anything that makes it resourceful and interesting to read. But the whole idea of this magazine is to share the fun of being creative and local designs.

You're welcome to contribute as many pages as you wish, I will let you know if I am going to use them all in one issue or put them in different issues. Your submission should be A4 page in PDF/ jpg/ Word/ Photoshop format.

Unfortunately, it's an unpaid contribution at the moment as I don't earn money from Creative Lane but I am trying to get some sponsor for Creative Lane so hopefully it's gonna be a paid job in the near future.

Please email me your page(s) no later than the 7 July and we will keep in touch! I am very excited about this project!!
